About the author

I am a painter interested in creating abstract images that have metaphorical references. Water in particular has informed my work for many years because of its rich associations. I use it in its many forms in an abstract way as a metaphor for the physicality of life and our physical selves. I am very much drawn to the ideas that combine the gestures of Ab-Ex Abstraction, the serial qualities of Pop, the operatic gesture of the Baroque, the physical movement of the Japanese Gutai, and influences of ancient Chinese Landscape Painting, all infused with past and present personal histories. These multi-cultural influences inspire a collective referral to the history of art and allow my own personal expression to align with the cultural context which we live in today. The "Lotus Rising Series" shown here began in 2012-present. It was inspired by a poem by Cao Zhi (192-232), a poet who lived during the HAN Dynasty and Three Kingdoms Period of Chinese History. This particular poem offered me many rich metaphorical associations to create a body of work with. Born New York City Lives and works in New Hope, Pa.
