About the author

Earle Montrose Pilgrim was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1923, and was Afro-Caribbean with roots in Barbados. He enlisted in the US Army in 1943. He studied art at the Art Students League in New York City and under Henry Hensche in Provincetown, MA. He was active in New York City; Provincetown, MA; and Boston, MA. In 1986 his work was included in Kind of Blue, an exhibition curated by Charles Giuliano showcasing the work of Emilio Cruz, Bob Thompson, Benny Andrews and Mr. Pilgrim, all artists of the African Diaspora with ties to the legacy of American Art in Provincetown, MA. The private estate-based collection of Mr. Pilgrim's artworks is held in Washington, DC by his widow, Mrs. Lily T. Pilgrim.
