Johnson was selected to participate in an international residential fellowship at Caversham Centre for Artists and Writers, Balgowan, South Africa, January-February, 2009. I began painting in order to visually express the stories I had previously only been able to express through poetry. I use visual art as a second language. Together, both mediums complement each other and add to my tool set helping me fulfill my purpose as an artist.
