About the author

Growing up in a beach community has provided me with the right setting to become a lover of nature. On any given day, late in the afternoon, moisture off of the ocean would give the sky a special glow of soft pastel blues and pinks. There were a variety of wildflowers along the beach dunes and washed up treasures along the shore. I would ride my bike out to the farm fields and paint the landscape, horses and fence posts. These interests continued throughout my life, leading me to study at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY for a BFA in Painting. I continued my art education at the Rhode Island School of Design for a Certificate in Natural Science Illustration and most recently at the Art Student’s League of New York to study the human anatomy. My work has been shown in many major institutions such as the Newport Art Museum, RI, the Audubon Society of RI and Greenwich, Conn., the Longwood Gardens, PA, and the Brooklyn and New York Botanical Garden. I have listed a few select paintings from different series of my work. There are a few images from my Natural Science Illustrations and New England Rock Series produced on the coast of Rhode Island. Also are two large scale paintings from the Women Warrior III Series and one large landscape 'In Praise of All Things' from an earlier time period in my artistic development. This piece was exhibited with the Art & Embassy program from 1999 to 2002 at the Ambassadorial Residency in Sarajavo, Bosnia. Marie Stile
