Born in Hungary, Mr. Toth graduated with a BA from Indiana University. For the next 30 plus years he worked at some of the top advertising agencies and corporations in the US. His commercial work has won over 300 national and international awards for photography, design and advertising. Today, he devotes himself to nurturing his fine art photography into significant bodies of work, taking his photography into contemporary art making, using the medium in ways that challenges it artistically, intellectually, and technically.
He states...
“...I wanted to broadened the notion of what a photograph could be in art. In an equally rigorous but more aesthetically adventurous analysis, I began to probe photography itself—from the role of light, color, composition, to creating unique
layers, and manipulation of the image in my digital darkroon.The result is a group of images that never could be accomplished in the traditional camera and darkroom environment. I wanted to create images that embody a delicate, lyrical sensitivity and thus enhance the emotive tone and overall mood making each photograph special – more thought-provoking and
timeless than the original. I strive to express the outward appearance of a scene, but, more importantly, its soul,
its inner nature, its spirit. I want to challenge the viewer’s perception of contemporary photography – artistically,
intelectually and technically.”
