My education was grounded in conceptual/minimalist art. Some of my early influences were Anne Truit, Sam Gilliam and Craig Kauffman. Over time, I became disenchanted with purely formal art and how it created a distance between the art and the viewer. I was intrigued with the idea of physically involving the viewer in the art experience and I started working on large scale installations that incorporated writing, sound and performance. In 2008, I began a series of constructions that continuted the exploration of movement and potential energy through the use of soft materials and suspended objects. Currently, I am working on static paintingthat incorporate thickly poured, scraped and brushed paint to convey a sense of movement.
