Andrew was born in San Jose, CA and grew up in San Francisco in the 1950’s and 1960’s He started painting at a young age and now has a portfolio of paintings and murals done over the past 45 years, many of them depicting famous people, places and things. Some include rock stars, actors and sports figures as well as Mexican and Italian scenes, railroads and a baseball stadium.
In his early years he did posters for the Fillmore West in San Francisco of rock groups such as the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother & the Holding Co. and Credence Clearwater Revival as well as the original Chili’s Restaurant and Joe DiMaggio’s restaurant.
In the 70’s he graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a bachelor of fine arts degree. He moved on to paint murals in Los Angles, and later in the casinos, hotels and restaurants in Lake Tahoe, Reno and Las Vegas.
In 1990 he moved to Florida where he continued painting murals in hotels, nightclubs and restaurants. While in Florida he painted a poster for Save the Black Bear headed by Cleveland Amory and designed a t-shirt for Hurricane Andrew relief fund.
In 1994 he moved on to Augusta, GA to paint murals for the host cities of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics At that time he also a mural for James Brown’s office and murals in various restaurants in Augusta. Mural projects in Augusta included participation of students of different ages and classes at Augusta State College.
By the summer of 2000 Andrew moved to the New York area. Living in New Jersey he has painted murals at Swing 46 and Pulgia’s Restaurant in New York; Broadway Grills in Red Bank, Bradley Beach, Manasquan, and Summit,; Murphy’s Style Grill in Red Bank; Attilio’s Restaurant in Long Branch Beach; Villa Galleria in Sayreville; Water Works, Bamboo Bar, Casino Pier, Spicy’s all in Seaside Heights; Rattler’s Steakhouse & Saloon in Lynhurst; and Club Paradise and Asbury Partners both in Asbury Park.,
Andrew has shown canvas works in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Ft Lauderdale, FL, Hollywood, FL, Augusta, GA, Eatontown and Montclair, NJ, Las Vegas, Reno and Pahrump, NV.
He is the only artist to have paintings hanging in Juilliard and The Apollo Theater in New York. He
has a painting at the Martin Luther King, Jr Foundation in Atlanta and the NAACP in New York.
In 2005 Andrew relocated to Nevada. He painted an historical mural for the Nye Co Schools Board building & murals at Manse Elementary with help from students. In addition, he painted at the Casino Legends Hall of Fame, Las Vegas Ice Center, Barley’s Casino, Poly Esters Nightclub in the Stratosphere Casino and portraits of inductees into Las Vegas Walk of Stars, and taught Art Appreciation class at Great Basin Community College in Pahrump. During the summers of 2009 and 2010 he painted murals at the Jailhouse Casino, the Hotel Nevada, Prospector Hotel & Casino, the Sunset Lounge and Big 4, all Ely, NV.
In 2008 has completed reproduction of the Ellis Island: The Lost Mural which displayed at Andre Agassi Preparatory Academy, Las Vegas; Nevada Historical Society, Reno, the Northeast NV Historical Museum, Elko, NV; West Jordan Historical Society, West Jordan UT; Union Station,
Ogden, UT; Churchill Co Museum, Fallon, NV; Heritage Museum, Sparks, NV; Savannah River Visitors Center, Augusta, Area; Aiken Arts Center, SC; and currently at National Archives in
Atlanta.
