Scott Ludwig is a visual artist and Printmaking Area Director in the Art Department at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. He earned his Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Ludwig’s experience and technical interests are wide-ranging. As a printmaker, he embraces a contemporary interpretation of the form and process. Extending beyond works on paper and into hybrid investigations, he explores the convergence of digital media, photography, installation, sculpture, drawing, papermaking, and various other, non-traditional mediums.
Over the past several years, he has been awarded numerous grants, fellowships and artist residencies that have funded creative research in the U.S. and abroad, including a Fulbright-Hays Scholarship to Turkey in 1999.
Ludwig actively exhibits his work nationally and internationally with recent, solo and group exhibitions in Beijing, Shanghai, Zhengzou City, and Changsha (cities in China), London and Bolton (UK), Amsterdam, Seoul and Havana. Nationally, his work has been exhibited in California, New York, Washington, DC, Virginia, Florida, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Louisiana, Delaware, and North Carolina. He has received numerous accolades including the "Outstanding Creative Research Faculty Award" from the College of Fine and Applied Arts at Appalachian State University, "Best of Show" in the 2012 International Juried Printmaking & Photography Exhibition at Artspace in Richmond, VA, a "Juror’s Prize" in the National Exhibition, Pressing Matters, at the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto, CA, and in 2015 was a featured artist in the important survey, The Xiaoxiang Exhibition of International Printmaking, at Meilun Art Museum in Changsha, China. Throughout much of 2015-2016, as part of his most recent creative research sabbatical, Ludwig traveled extensively, participating in several artist residencies in Europe and Asia and the IMPACT 9 Printmaking Conference in Hangzhou, China. His work is held in numerous public and private collections.?
