Donna Bruni

Midwest, MN
9 2nd Street SE, Minneapolis, 55414

Date of Birth: 12/13/1954

American painter, Donna Bruni, born Ft. Dix, NJ, creates atmospheric, elemental oil paintings that hold references to places known, remembered or imagined, suspended within layered surfaces of color. Her New City series (2015), marks a return to imagery inspired by the natural world. The compositions are based on shifting light patterns, movement, form and flux of urban and natural landscape, observed many times a day from her studio windows. Conceptually, the canvases focus on our perception of time/space, memory/present moment through the painting process. The New City paintings were featured in City & Sea, Artwork Network Gallery, Denver, Colorado (2014) and Reflection/Renewal, Mill City Clinic Gallery, Minneapolis, Minnesota (2015). Bruni's series Floating to the Surface (Spirit paintings), began with memorial site visits in Gernika, Spain, EL Mozote, El Salvador and New York City. The work pushed towards pure abstraction as means to create visual poetry in the aftermath of tragic events. The canvases explore grief and loss. A solo exhibition at Gallery One|BMW of Minneapolis and selection for Art on the Plains IX Biennial, Plains Art Museum featured the this work. Bruni's artwork appears in Studio Visit magazine, American Art Collector and is included in private and public collections throughout the United States. Bruni grew up in Yardley, Pennsylvania, spending summers along the Atlantic coast. She studied art and design at Endicott College, School of Visual Arts and University of Minnesota (B.A., Visual Art & Healing). Her art career began as a graphic designer in New York. After relocating to the Midwest with her family, she completed a two year program for emerging women artists, working with visual artist Jantje Visscher. As an advocate for building creative communities, Bruni is a teaching artist who has worked with artists of all ages (3-80 yrs.) from all walks of life, using the image-making process to create and share visual narratives in public healthcare, education, business and community organizations. She is Exhibition Curator at University of Minnesota Mill City Clinic in Minneapolis.

She is represented by Douglas Flanders & Associates, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
