About the author

Catherine Day is a Virginia artist, born and raised, with heritage roots in the South. She earned a BFA in Photography and Graphic Arts from Stephens College in Missouri. Exhibiting nationally in both solo and group shows, she is a recipient of numerous exhibition, juror’s and purchase awards. Most recently her work was seen in an Arlington Arts Center solo show in late 2017. In 2017 and 2016 she was a photolucida Critical Mass Finalist. She was a 2015 Trawick Prize finalist, and received a 2012 Strauss Fellowship from The Arts Council of Fairfax County, Virginia. Catherine Day lives and works in McLean, Virginia where she has easy access to and is an important part of the creative vitality and cross current artistic connections of the Washington, D.C. area. While starting from photographs taken by her, she has most often also incorporated a changing selection of nontraditional materials to better create a narrative that emotionally touches viewers. Her work, while based on photographs continually taken during all the large and small moments of her life, sets as its goal not a diary of one lone life, but instead a reflection of those moments shared by all.
