ROBERT SCHEFMAN: BIO
Robert Schefman, a native of Detroit, Michigan, earned a BFA in Sculpture from Michigan State University, and an MFA from the University of Iowa. Schefman lived and worked in New York City for thirteen years, returning to the Detroit area in 1989.
Schefman’s solo exhibitions have been held at the U.N. Plaza, New York City; Aesthetic Arrest, New York City; the Ancient Gates of Troy, Troy, Turkey, The Midland Center For The Arts,, Midland Michigan, The Charach Museum, West Bloomfield, Michigan, The Krasl Art Center, St. Joseph, MI, and Meadow Brook Gallery, Oakland University, Rochester, MI.
Group exhibitions include: The Detroit Institute of Art, Ruggiero/Henis Gallery, New York City, The Brooklyn Army Terminal, New York City, Wards Island, New York City, Foley Square/ Federal Plaza, New York City, Struve Gallery, Chicago, Timothy Yarger Fine Art, Beverly Hills, CA, Manifest Research Gallery, Cincinatti, Robert Kidd Gallery, Birmingham, Michigan, and The Detroit Artists Market. He has exhibited at Art Miami, Art LA and Art Chicago.
He was awarded Best In Show at the Realism Biennial, at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, and awarded grants from the Pollack-Krasner Foundation, The Benard Maas Foundation, The Arts Foundation of Michigan, The State of Michigan Creative Artist Grant and The University of Iowa Graduate Senate.
His works are in the collections of The Detroit Institute of Arts, The Boca Raton Museum of Art, The 19th District Court, Dearborn; Ford Arts Center, Dearborn; Wayne State University, Detroit; The Cooley Law School, Lansing; The University of Iowa, and private collections in Detroit, New York City, Boca Raton, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
Schefman is currently the Chair of the Foundations Department, and Professor at the The College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan.
