Dr. Harriet Smith is an abstract visual artist with a passion for creating color combinations and textured surfaces on canvas using oil paints and mixed media. Her artwork has been described as "instinctive and melodic." Dr. Smith attributes her love of photography and music to her creativity and creations, inspiring her vision of personal and inviting art. She looks to uncover conceptual images portrayed in still photos and draw influences from her imagination and surroundings. Those inspirations guide her color technique of layering and designing shapes and forms that appeal to the visual senses and subjective and objective interpretations. Dr. Smith aims to balance spontaneity with intentionality that generates energy in each piece of art. Her work is on display on the Black Art Today Foundation website, at the Wellspring Manor and Spa in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and in collectors' homes and personal and professional spaces. Additionally, her art has been shown at the Popcorn Gallery, Glen Echo, MD; Bowie City Hall, Bowie, MD; Neiman Marcus, Tysons Galleria, Tyson Corner, VA; Maryland State House, Annapolis, MD; Torpedo Factor, Alexandria, VA; Gallery B, Bethesda, MD; and, CAEL Gallery, Milan, Italy.
