Born in the state of New York, Alice has lived on the eastern seaboard of the United States for much of her nearly half century of life. Just back from ten years living in the Rocky Mountains, she creates fiber art inspired by her travels throughout the U.S., Europe, Mexico and islands of the Caribbean, her affinity for historical studies, and her love of nature and literature. As a teacher of social studies, she helped students be introduced to cultural and religious aspects of the Eastern Hemisphere, as well as historic events of the Western Hemisphere. She resides in Maryland, cares for rescued animals, writes music, and believes deeply in communicating through art on a global level.
Artist Statement:
"Sewn Mosaics" are a fiber art form of reassembling fabrics into framed art collages. As I browse fabric stores, images jump out to me based on a theme i.e. a piece of literature, a landscape, a place in time. I allow my travel, my extensive reading, and my deep appreciation for the outdoors to guide me toward sensory nostalgia without sentimentality. It's a journey I welcome others to experience through my sewn mosaics.
