I was born in Cambridge, Mass. I lived there, in Iowa and Washington D.C. and in the U.S. Foreign Service, stationed in Dacca, Bangladesh; Heidelberg, Germany; Kinshasha, Congo; and Bremen, Germany. . Travelling and sightseeing was a major feature of growing up that way and probably influenced me to become a landscape painter.
I studied printmaking at Antioch College and painting at the Boston Museum School with T. Lux Feiniger in 1973. In 1981 I received an M.FA. from the University of Washington School of Art where I studied painting with Norman Lundin and Jacob Lawrence.
I moved to Carteret County in 1998 from Seattle, WA. My husband was born and raised in Newport, we met in Idaho. His father gave us land on Gale’s Creek where we built our house. I was fortunate to get work as Art Teacher at Newport Elementary School via the lateral entry program.
In the Northwest I worked as a graphic designer for the Seattle Weekly and other publications. I also completed mural commissions, exhibited paintings, and sold more than 50 works to private and public collections, mainly through galleries and the Washington State Arts Commission. I taught continuing education classes in drawing, watercolor and oil painting at Bellevue Community College.
