Betsy Gandy earned a BA in Art from Mercer U. in Macon, GA in 1972 and an MA in Art History from U. of GA in 1978. She has lived extensively overseas, in Chile and in Spain, where she earned a diploma superior in Spanish from the Universidad de Salamanca. She painted freelance while teaching college Art History and Spanish in various institutions until 2000, when she decided to turn her attention to painting full time. Since then, she has shown extensively in the USA and abroad, including as a participant in the Art in Embassies program, with her works currently on display at the US Embassy in Reykjavik, Iceland. She has won several awards and been selected for membership in organizations such as the National League of American Pen Women (in Visual Arts) and the Academic Artists Association in Springfield, MA. She has also had her art featured in several publications, such as "El Nuevo Herald" (Spanish subdivision of "The Miami Herald"), "Ibero-Americana International Magazine" and the "Naples Daily News"(Naples, FL).

Most of Betsy's efforts have been devoted to different series, including one titled "Excavations," based on her impressions of prehistoric cave paintings, another titled "Spanish Skies," featuring iconic images of the Spanish culture, and prints and paintings of wildlife, especially the latter's struggle to cope with the encroachment of civilization upon its realm. Her medium of choice is acrylic on canvas.
