I am a mosaic artist in Mooresville, North Carolina. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Cum Laude, from Miami University, with a concentration in textile design. I began my career in the design studio of Imperial Wallcoverings, Beachwood, Ohio, then launched my own wallpaper and fabric design studio.
After 10 years managing my textile design business, I started playing around with mosaic. I became addicted. I find the process of creating images out of many little pieces soothing and satisfying. I am especially drawn to pattern and flow, as found in ancient Greek and Roman mosaics. I am captivated by the richness and beauty of the materials I use: stained glass, vitreous glass tile, glazed ceramic tile, glass beads, vintage glass buttons, stone. I tend to use color boldly in my work.
Gardens and nature, and travel inspire me. My work is influenced by the ancient mosaics I have seen, as well as the breathtaking scenery I have stumbled upon around the world. Recently, I have been exploring mandalas and labyrinths in mosaic, borrowing from the hedge mazes and labyrinths that I have visited, as well as my interest in meditation. My goal is to bring serenity, beauty, and joy to viewers of my art.
My pieces range from framed art to architectural installations to functional pieces, such as garden and park benches.
