Susan Mastrangelo was born in New York City. She studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and the New York Studio School, and received her MFA from Boston University, while studying with Philip Guston.
She has had one person shows in New York City, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Hudson New York, and Brooklyn, while also participating in numerous group shows. Ms. Mastrangelo is a recipient of a Rockwell Grant, two grants from the Pollack Krasner Foundation, a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome, a guest at Civitella Raneri in Italy, and awarded residencies at Yaddo, The Virginia Center for the Arts, The Ragdale Foundation, Illinois, The Triangle Workshop, with Anthony Caro, and the Tyrone Guthrie Center in Ireland.
Along with being a sculptor and painter, Ms. Mastrangelo has also created six installations in public spaces, and has collaborated with two poets, resulting in two shows and a book project.
Ms. Mastrangelo held the position as Head of the Art Department and instructor of art at the Buckley School in New York City, NY for twenty six years, and now works as a full time artist in Brooklyn New York.
