Carol Barsha grew up in New York and received her BFA and MFA in Painting from Boston University College of Fine Arts where she studied with Philip Guston. Her work consists of closely observed studies from nature that, once distilled, undergo a transformation into larger-than-life versions of themselves. She believes in the discovery and revelation of the natural world as the object of her paintings and prints. She has exhibited internationally through the Arts in Embassies Program and was a Visiting Artist at The American Academy in Rome and a Resident Artist at The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.She was a Bethesda Painting Award semi-finalist and received an Individual Artist Grant in Painting from the Maryland State Arts Council. Barsha’s paintings and prints are in the collection of The Women’s Art Collection at Murray Edwards College of Cambridge University, U.K., The Federal Reserve Board, the National Institute of Health, Inova Schar Cancer Centers, UVA Hospital and in numerous private collections worldwide. Her work has been recognized by The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, Where/Washington and in publications of The Bronx Museum of the Arts, The Federal Reserve Board, The Westchester Arts Council among others.
