For the last 16 years I have been fascinated by steel, bronze & aluminum.I like the permanence, I like the hot fire that this medium makes you play in.And I love the endless combinations I can create with my first art love, calligraphy.
There is a moment in time (about 8 seconds or less)when steel is heated that it is malleable enough to bend & twist using just the strength of my hands. I love that window of time when something so hard can be shaped so easily. Then, magically it reverts to this permanent, impenetrable substance.
There is a moment in time that a calligraphic brush can create with the mark it has just left behind on its surface.
I guess you can say that I work with frozen movements. My metal work & calligraphy dance rather than fight. They leave the viewer with the fragments of the dance that the artist just finished.
