In the words of photography great Ansel Adams "One does not "take" a photograph. One makes a photograph. Or in the words of a perhaps lesser known yet equally great photographer Paul Dahlquist "I'm not a 'picture taker'; I'm a 'picture giver'." It is by channelling one's own personal experience through one's chosen discipline (be it photography, dance, music, poetry, film making etcetera) that one creates an offering onto the world, a gift imbued with one's own personal stamp of uniqueness. It is for this reason that I practice photography. It affords me the opportunity to express my uniqueness while honoring the unique and valuable contributions made everyday by others.
