Claire B Jones is a visual artist who works with the unexpected tools of a sewing machine and thread to create small whimsical, sculptural forms. Each sculpture can be twisted and displayed in different ways, but they are always self-sufficient and able to stand on their own. Just as math topology studies the limits and continuities of transformed shapes and spaces, her work explores the properties of material, plane, and form, testing and stretching their boundaries and possibilities. Claire hopes, in some way, that these supple, structured objects – and the innovative processes out of which they emerge – generate a sense of possibility, a belief in our capacity to conceive and realize new forms.
