Since graduate school I have worked in clay and taught ceramic sculpture at the university level. For years I lived and worked in Chicago. Recently, I moved to the D. C. area where I have established a new studio.
In the past I have been known for my welded clay sculptures. Most recently this work was part of the "Sculpture Today" exhibit at the Meijer Sculpture Garden in Michigan. I have shown sculptures in other U.S. galleries and museums, such as the Dubuque Museum in Iowa and the Dubhe Carreno Gallery in Chicago as well as internationally at The 5th World Contemporary Ceramic Biennale in Seoul, South Korea.
One day about 18 months ago, I happened to apply smoke to a random sheet of paper. I was very taken by the resulting captured image. It felt as if the finite and infinite of the natural world met in a new incarnation of my past work.
The current show is the latest iteration of my work on paper.
