Eileen Lyons is a fourth generation painter and was raised on the waters of Long Island, NY and Palm Beach County, FL. After living in DC for nearly 30 years, her home studio is now located in Jupiter, Florida. Her work explores ideas pertaining to the interconnectedness and symbolic dialogue between water, place and home through multiple perspectives. Her acrylic and oil paintings include poured layers of paint, nautical maps, charts and dense patterning. Her recent work involves environmental concerns and rising sea levels. Lyons holds a BFA in Painting from St. Mary’s College of Notre Dame and an MA in Museum Studies from American University. She also studied at the Corcoran and earned her teaching degree from the University of Virginia. Lyons exhibits regularly and her work is in many private and corporate collections. She teaches painting at the Armory Arts Center and the Norton Museum of Art, both located in West Palm Beach. Lyons remains on staff as a Teaching Artist at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
