Elisabeth Winnen, born 1964, Venray, The Netherlands.
She lives in the Pacific Northwest in Portland, Oregon
Elisabeth Winnen was born and raised in the Netherlands. She studied art and architecture in the Netherlands and the US. She moved to the United States in 1994 to study at The Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture for her Masters.
Her art work combines ancient art, architecture, mythology and it’s interaction with nature and the human body.
She is steadily working on her vision of creating a series of 10 large scale artworks featuring ancient buildings and cities that appear on the UNESCO World Heritage Monument list. Last summer she traveled to the ancient city of Teotihuacan in Mexico which was the topic of one painting. She hopes to visit all 10 monuments.
A particular category of building called archeoastronomy has her interest. These are buildings that are designed to reflect the night sky and are aligned with the heavens, the rising and setting of planets and stars. She hopes to share some of the knowledge, insights and appreciation for these ancient cultures through her art.
Elisabeth is an art instructor and teaches art classes to young children and adults.
