Gabriele Roos was born in Hamburg, Germany and came to the United states in 1938. Rasised in Mt. Vernon, New York; she moved to New York City to attend College at Cooper Union. She earned a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from the University of Michigan.
Ms. Roos has taught fine art, design and architecture-related courses at the Museum of Modern Art, Pratt College, New York University , City College, and the Parsons School of Design.

Actively engaged with art making for the entirety of her adult life, Ms. Roos chose wall sculpture as her sole focus beginning in the early 1990s. she employs familiar found objects, often urban detritus with hand-crafted elements in unexpected combinations to create a kind of " abstract surrealism." In her rigorously conceived compostions, Roos articulates themes of duality: freedom/constraint, bouyancy/gravity, and movement/stasis, via her utilization of bold forms in balanced opposition.

She has exhibited internationally and widely in the Northeast United States with solo shows at Avram gallery, Southampton College, New York; The Trenton City Art Museum, Trenton, New Jersey; Soho20 Gallery, New York City; FX Fowle Architects, New York City; Elaine Bensen Gallery, Bridgehampton, New York; Arlene Bujese Gallery, East Hampton, New York; Pardo Gallery, New York City; Grace Borgenicht Gallery, New York City; West Broadway Gallery, New York City.

Her work is represented in private and private collections including Chase Manhattan Bank,New York; John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York; O'Hare International Airport, Chicago, Illinois; Loews Hotel, Monte Carlo.

Ms. Roos lives and works in New York City and in Easthampton, New York.
