Gibbs Rounsavall (B. 1975) is a Louisville based geometric abstract painter who was featured as one of 13 artists in Louisville Magazine’s, “13 Artists You Need to Know Now” issue.
In 2019 he was awarded the Artist in Residence position at the Galt House Hotel, the first Residency of its kind in the state of Kentucky and featured in USA Today. In 2018 he was invited to participate in the international SHINE mural festival in St. Petersburg Florida. That same year, he was awarded enrollment in the Creative Capital Hadley Creatives class, invited to be the first Artist in Residence at Syndicate Design and had work permanently installed in the Omni Hotel and the new Kentucky International Convention Center.
His work has been included in academic presentations on subjects from abstract art to urban climate change. He has appeared in print, radio and online interviews and feature articles. He has been invited as a guest artist to speak at events for arts organizations and academic settings. Most recently in 2017, he spoke on the subject of Serendipity for the Creative Mornings monthly lecture series titled, “How to Become a Serendipitous Learner.”
Rounsavall earned his BFA from Washington University in St. Louis and his MAT from the University of Louisville. His work can be found in public and private collections worldwide. He lives in Louisville Kentucky with his wife and two daughters.
