Although from Appalachia, I spent most of my adult life travelling the world in service to my country. This has given me the opportunity to observe history and other cultures from a unique perspective. I am a graduate of Allegany College of Maryland, Frostburg State University, and Auburn University where I earned a Master of Science degree in Political Science. As a self taught artist, my interests are in both sculpting and oil painting and my works can best be described as Pop Surrealism. I strive to invoke a level of reality while maintaining simplicity in representation. My paintings capture emotion through the use of bright colors, while sculptures find emotion through shape, avoiding the use of color for realism. Color in sculpting is used to set a mood or tone during interpretation. Both, paintings and sculpture, look for aspects in life that are either attractive or patently in the absurd. It is my belief that, although art can be evocative, it should be honest and, when possible, elicit a smile. My most recent works are what I refer to as “layered abstract,” a combination of abstract and surrealist art. My work has been shown and won awards in numerous regional shows (Md. and WV).
