I was born and raised in Panama City, the Republic of Panama and attended schools in the former Canal Zone. After majoring in Film from Emerson College in Boston, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in animation. For several years I worked at a number of animation houses including Ralph Bakshi Studios, and in 1983 was hired by the Walt Disney Company as a character animator.
I directed Oliver and Company, a full length animated feature that was released in 1988. Over the next 15 years I worked as a concept and story artist on numerous other projects including the Lion King, Fantasia Continued and Dinosaur.
I am currently working at Walt Disney Imagineering where I direct animated projects for the Theme Parks around the world. I have directed a number of projects for this division including Mickey’s Philharmagic, a 10 minute 3D film that is currently in our Florida and Hong Kong theme parks. I also co-directed a film celebrating the 50th anniversary of Disneyland starring Steve Martin.
I’ve taken numerous painting workshops in Los Angeles including classes with Steve Huston, Ken Auster and Kim English. My primary inspirations are John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorrolla and the California Plein Air movement - a look and feel that I bring to the landscapes and people of Panama.
I am currently represented in Panama by the Mery Palma Galeria, Segil Fine Art Gallery in Monrovia California, and the Disneyland Gallery on Main Street where I exhibit original oil paintings depicting scenes of Disneyland.
I have been commissioned by the Republic of Panama to paint large scale oil paintings of the ongoing Panama Canal Expansion – a nine year project to widen the existing Panama Canal. I will be painting the various phases of construction through completion in 2014. The paintings will hang in the Canal Administration building in Panama City.
