“And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”
This is what I paint.
In addition to being a painter, Lee Schiring is a musician and teacher. She is a former ballet accompanist, as well as a church organist.
Color, shape, and form coalesce into a visual momentum driving the image as musical force drives a Bach Prelude—with the added fillip of jazz as played by John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet, pushing Bach’s rhythms and harmonies.
The work builds slowly, about three square inches a day. The artist spends her working hours crawling over bits of vegetation with a tiny brush, in pursuit of a cumulative resonance.
Her work hangs in the homes of professors, accountants, and other professionals.
