Irene Christensen manages to divide her time producing her work not
only in her studios in New York City as well as in Oslo, Norway, but
also for one month each year in Costa Rica. She has exhibited in
both Europe and the United States since 1983. Her art has been
shown in many museums such as Galeria Nacional (Costa Rica),
Norsk Skogs Museum (Norway), Norwegische Tage (Ingelheim am
Rhein, Germany), EFTA (Brussels, Belgium), Bergen Museum (New
Jersey, USA), Paterson Museum (NJ, USA), Noyes Museum (NJ,
USA), Newark Museum (NJ, USA), as well as at many additional art
centers and galleries in places such as Brazil, Israel and Argentina.
During the Venice Biennial 2017 she exhibited an installation of 9
accordion books at Palazzo Mora.

Environmentally concerned, Irene Christensen was on the Board of
Directors of AIRIE (Artists in Residence in Everglades), Florida, for
many years and during the summer of 2014, she co-curated with the
AIRIE founder, Donna Marxer, a traveling exhibition to Norway and
the USA called the "Suitcase Show."

Ms. Christensen’s paintings are done through traditional oil
techniques, as well as mixed media on canvas or paper. She also
makes installations of box art, and has made over 50 artists books
which she refers to as "accordion books" or "concertina paintings."
One of her artist books, "Everglades in Mind,” is now in the
permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Irene Christensen has received many honorariums and awards both
in Europe and the USA, and is represented in many museums and
personal collections on both sides of the Atlantic.
