Originally from Ontario, Canada, Jane Cornish Smith was born into a nomadic and artistic family. She has widely exhibited abstracted figurative and landscape work using wax and mixed media in shows such as Texas/London – A Transatlantic Collaboration of Style and Subject Matter at the Malthouse Gallery in Lyme Regis, England; and New Texas Talent at Craighead Green Gallery in Dallas and others. She received her MFA degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce, and BFA and MLA degrees from Southern Methodist University. Jane has attended artist residencies at the International School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture in Umbria, Italy; the Vermont Studio Center; and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She has also received Purchase Awards from Texas A&M University-Commerce, the University of Texas at Tyler, and Brookhaven College. Her work can be found at the Museum of Encaustic Art in Santa Fe, and the Tenby Museum and Art Gallery in Wales, and is pictured in UU World Magazine, Encaustic Arts Magazine, and Columns. Jane enjoys teaching, and making art in her studio in rural Lone Oak, Texas.
