I attended Washington University in St. Louis and graduated with a BFA in 1978. I then lived in NYC for several years , took a brief sojourn to Mexico and ended up settling in the Hudson Valley, where I now reside. My work focuses on the figure, which is depicted in a folk art style. I am seeking to capture the spirit, the essence of being, rather than the physical reality of existence. I often use words to accentuate the visual images. My focus is often on discovery of the self, peace, and cooperation between people. My work is uniquely american, drawing on the great folk tradition of our forbearers, but adding an edginess that is reflective of our current, turbulent times. While residing in Mexico, it made me realize that despite the flaws of our system, that America is a place where the door to change is always open, however slow it seems.
