Photographer John Francis began his studies at the Kansas City Art Institute; he received a BS from the University of Cincinnati and an MS degree in Communication from Florida State University. Francis’ work explores the parameters of landscape photography, pushing the boundaries of how it is seen as both physical and cultural space. In 2009 while on a trip to Japan he began to investigate the impact of motion on images. Multiple points of time and space exist side by side in each photograph and the position of the author and viewer becomes fluid. This series, Moments in Transition, currently includes images made in Japan, Germany, and the United States and has exhibited widely in each of these countries. He has received multiple grants from the Idaho Commission on the Arts and has won numerous awards for his photography, most recently in 2018 first place in America, the World exhibit at the Abington Art Center and the Directors Choice Award at the Praxis Gallery. He currently lives and works in Idaho.
