I am an artist with a focus on creating large scale sculptures of glass and light.
These sculptures fundamentally redirect ambient light to project alternate and distinct depictions of their subjects.
My educational background in math and computer science, along with my career in biotechnology information systems, has enabled me to realize this novel form of glass art. Starting with a dream of ethereal human forms comprised of ribbons floating in the air, these artworks materialized through 3D photography, digital modeling, digital sculpting, engineering and advanced fabrication techniques.
These sculptures are in a sense "4D": they depict three dimensional subjects through cut glass, but also project alternate depictions of the same subjects as pure light.
Abstract shapes have been removed from each glass panel in my sculptures, leaving behind only their outlines. Through multiple panels of glass spaced apart, the eye assembles these abstract outlines into accurate, flowing three-dimensional forms.
If I can move people emotionally or spiritually, or bring them pause with peaceful moments of contemplation and wonder, or if my artwork makes an unspoken statement that people readily understand and appreciate, then I have done my job.
I have a strong sense of curiosity, creativity, ambition and drive, and I enjoy logically and fearlessly approaching even the most difficult of problems.
I believe that as an artist and scientist, I have a highly unusual skill set, resulting in a very contemporary art form that will give people pause. The size of these works (6ft. tall and larger), their complexity yet sinewy beauty, their ethereal forms, their exceptional optics yielding alternate and unexpected perspectives, their changing qualities with changing light, their unusual materials and finishes, and many other unique characteristics make me believe that my work would be a wonderful fit for embassies.
I would greatly appreciate the chance to elaborate on any sections of my submitted information, or answer any questions that you may have.
