North is a current Professor of Art at PrattMWP in Utica, NY. Her work investigates natural/virtual phenomenon as seen through energy fields of pattern and chaos, simulating extreme weather by heating/burning, flooding and painting directly on water. North collaborates with meteorologists, ecologists, architects, designers and artists for curatorial projects and her own work. She received an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.
Recent awards include a residency at the National Art Gallery in Male’, Maldives, where she is designing an ambitious rooftop mural/garden/city park called UNDERWATER. Through a mixed media (art and green technology) approach, she and her collaborators will create the illusion of the ocean rising and washing over a building and city park, thus creating the effect of a corner of the island going underwater. Other awards include a residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts, Montalvo teaching residency, Root Division, a Murphy and Cadogan fellowship, and a benefit show for the DeYoung and Legion of Honor Museums. Recent shows include Art Now and Bridge fairs in Miami Beach, and NY, NY, Micaela Gallery, SFMOMA Artist Gallery, the Lab, We Artspace, and solo shows at the Red Poppy Arthouse, the TransAmerica Pyramid in San Francisco, Penn State University, San Mateo City Hall, Micaela Gallery and 50 Fremont in San Francisco.
