After receiving her B. S. Degree from Skidmore College and her M.F.A. Degree in painting & printmaking from The University of Michigan, Joan Rosenstein was Acting Head of the Education Department at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. In 1967, she joined the full time Art Department faculty at Montgomery College in Maryland. In the early 1980’s, she studied photography with Jerry Uelsmann, Sally Mann, George Krause, Cole Weston, Edna Bullock, Ralph Gibson, Susan Mieseles & other photographers whose work she admired. This helped her make the transition from painting to fine art photography.

In addition to teaching & exhibiting during her thirty-year tenure at Montgomery College, she received several grants, sabbaticals & fellowships.

Rosenstein’s work has been published and exhibited nationally in over 170 group shows and 19 solo exhibitions. Her work is included in public, corporate & private collections internationally and throughout the United States.
