John Welch was born and lives in the Western United States. With the renowned Rudolf Schaeffer in San Francisco, he studied Ancient Subtle Oriental Concepts and Disciplines of Color and Design. For thirty years under the tutelage of Master Teacher Jean Penny Bailey, he studied the psychology of color and learning it's effects upon one's attitudes. He was also made aware of the significance and importance of the color and patterns in the energy fields of everything. He learned from this line of study that the more refined and pure the hue, shade or tint, the more elevated the initial response. John uses and improvisational approach, not only in his art, but in his very life. He keeps his creative flow open by feeling his way through a project, avoiding what he calls 'mechanized thinking'. He never envisions and end result when beginning a project, but deals only with hue and composition, whether in painting, mix-media, sculpture or mobile construction. The dominate hue with it's 'unique' supportive hues, tints, tones and neutrals are always the first consideration. John strives to produce only uplifting works, using no black or earth tones, i.e. umber etc. in any 'color mixes'. Since the response to 'art' is completely personal, John invites the owner to name and rename the piece as the person's perception changes. John Welch's work can be found in private collections, establishments, and institutions world wide.
P.S.: Lived eight years in Egypt. Had one man show in the Cairo US Embassy "Culture Center", 1970's, under Ambassador Albert Atherton.
