Jonathan Lurie was born in 1956 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a degree in sociology. As a child, he spent Saturdays at the Milwaukee Art Museum learning about art and photography. As a teenager, he made a darkroom and several of his images were published in his high school’s yearbook. The world has changed considerably since the 1970s, but not when it comes to Jonathan’s interest in making photographs. Always with a few projects in the works, he has an unquenchable thirst to start a new one. His favorite subject is water because of its amazing beauty and ubiquitous presence. His images have been published in a variety of publications and websites including the Wall Street Journal and Gapers Block Chicago. Recording artist, Owen Temple selected one of Jonathan’s images for the cover of his second CD, Dollars and Dimes. Jonathan is an artist member of Crusade for Art Chicago, the Filter Photo Festival and the Provincetown Arts Association and Museum. Recently his work appeared in a group show called “All that is Solid” at Alibi Fine Arts, a gallery in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood.
