Julia Paul works in both painting and photography and explores perception and impermanence through a lens of revealing and concealing. Her paintings are influenced by images and stories about vulnerability with subjects that are often filled with conflict and frailty. Her award-winning photography centers on the Virginia landscape and questions the role of photography as documentation. She has an MFA in painting from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has shown her work nationally in gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Masur Art Museum, Munroe, LA; Touchstone Gallery, Washington, DC; Target Gallery, Alexandria, VA; Blue Line Arts, Sacramento, CA; and the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts, Providence. She worked at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, contributing to the coordination and execution of large artist and survey exhibitions, and owned a business designing and producing wheel-thrown pottery that was sold in the US and internationally. Julia Paul lives and works in Virginia.
