Born in Baltimore, MD, Julia Dzikiewicz is now a Virginia resident who maintains her studio practice at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton. Dzikiewicz works exclusively in the medium of encaustic, using it to paint, to print, and to construct three-dimensional objects. Her work reflects an interest in history and the depiction of suffering in art. Byzantine Art and Christian Iconography often guide her work, resulting in art with bold colors, flat images and inclusions of crystals, pearls or metals.

Julia Dzikiewicz earned a BS in Architecture from the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA), then continued her studies in painting at the Corcoran College of Art + Design (Washington, DC), and in encaustic workshops taught by Bev Ryan at the Torpedo Factory Arts Center (Alexandria, VA), and artists David A. Clark and Cynthia Winika at R & F Handmade Paints (Kingston, NY).

Dzikiewicz’s work has won numerous awards and has been selected for regional, national and international juried exhibits. She has presented recent solo shows at the BlackRock Center for the Arts (Maryland), Workhouse Arts Center (Lorton, VA), TAG gallery in the Torpedo Factory Arts Center (Alexandria, VA) and Artworks Gallery (Richmond, VA). Juried group exhibits include Target Gallery (Alexandria, VA), Richmond Art Gallery (Richmond, BC, Canada), Gallery Nord (San Antonio, TX), Howard County Center for the Arts (Ellicott City, MD) Greater Reston Art Center (Reston, VA), and AnnMarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center (Dowell, MD). Her first Museum show will happen sometime in 2017, after the Prison Museum of the Workhouse Arts Center opens in it’s new space.

Dzikiewicz also has also applied her talents to storyboards, production (art) design and camera work for the short films “The Critic”, “Flowers for Daniel” and “Silent Sentinel” (coming soon) produced by Crimes of the Arts Films.( http://crimesoftheart.com/)
