I am originally from Cleveland and have been working in the New York art world for 10 years, and now live in Detroit. I feel a strong connection to the neglected histories and crumbling buildings of cities in our post-industrial regions; they deeply inspire my own personal work. I understand the potential for spaces to transform. I've completed installations in these sacred spaces in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Akron, Columbus, Omaha and Grand Rapids. I am invested in being apart of this movement to revive spaces and weave together community.
I just recently moved to Detroit after living in Grand Rapids, Michigan and running an artist residency on a Habitat for Humanity site for artists from all over the country and from places like Columbia, Mexico, and Germany. I was apart of a project with the curatorial art group SiTE:LAB, which facilitates for artists to create large-scale installation in spaces that are slated for development or demolition. The Habitat site has 11 vacant buildings, which are being utilized for art interventions. In the Roosevelt Park community in Grand Rapids, I have made bonds with neighbors, heard their perspectives and connected young people to artists in the area. Some of these people now assist in building sculpture and are developing relationships with artists internationally and in their community. I continue to look for opportunities to work with others and in neglected spaces that inspire me.
