I am not a "quiet" painter. When working in transparent watercolor, I use both color and paint lavishly, achieving vivid, luminescent hues by glazing numerous layers until my desired effect emerges. This produces a painting that glows from within, containing its own light and one that requires the complete and unyielding attention of the viewer.
I am fortunate to have become highly respected and recognized for my large floral paintings. At times the design of such a piece is almost abstract, due to the close-in composition of the subject matter. Currently, painting portraits in watercolor is my new focus - the transparency and glow of this fluid medium allows me to capture not only the likeness of, but also a hint of the personality of the subject. Watercolor portraiture is as exhilarating as it is challenging. Its the best of both worlds.
