As an artist, my fundamental mission is to serve as a catalyst for environmental awareness and conservation. I am inspired by the drama of nature and I'm constantly challenged to capture the dramatic sense of scale in space and light. I never tire of the many moods and impressions of the ocean and strive to paint them with conviction and a deep sense of spirituality. My work is driven by a passion for exploration of color, which has the ability to evoke so many different emotions as well as spatial relationships. This focus has helped to raise the bar on my level of quality and technique, serving to better understand the rendering of light on the subject matter. With nature as my guide I am attracted to two conditions within a landscape: simplicity of abstract shapes and contrast in value.
I have formal training as a commercial Illustrator. The art of painting for me is something so intimately personal I felt compelled to discover the process on my own. I believe that success has to do with deliberate practice. It must be focused and determined. I was chosen by The Delaware Division of the Arts to receive an Individual Artist Fellowship grant in the Emerging Professional category in 2008. I am a signature member of both the American Society of Marine Artists and Artists for Conservation Foundation. I am also a member of Delaware By Hand and was recently awarded status into the Masters Division. In 2011 I was accepted into the Ocean Artists Society. My work is represented by AerieArt Gallery in Rehoboth Beach, DE and Hardcastle Gallery in both Newark and Centreville, DE as well as Accent Gallery in NJ.
