K. Velis Turan (b. Washington, D.C.) is a mixed media fiber artist living and working in the Hudson Valley region of New York. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
K. Velis Turan has worked and studied with well known art quilters and mixed media artists including Ruth McDowell, Kerr Grawboski, Susan Kotulak and Hollie Heller. She now explores surface-design techniques which include silk screen printing, fabric painting, photo transfer and embellishing the whole-cloth surface of her work.
Prior to her career as a mixed media fiber artist, Velis Turan worked as an illustrator and graphic artist at Harper & Row Publishers and later became the art director of a monthly publication, Recreation News in Washington, DC.
In the coming year Velis Turan will have two pieces (Meridian Hill Park and Major Deegan Expressway) traveling throughout the United States and Europe with the International Quilt Festival’s Tactile Architecture exhibit. Next spring her piece Day Becomes Electric will be displayed at the Textile Museum in Washington, DC.
