Layne Johnson is a lifelong, professional artist. Art has been a central part of his life since he first picked up a brush and oil paints as a kid.

The painters of the Hudson River School have heavily influenced Johnson’s work, which has been described as a blend of Luminism and Classical Realism plus a touch of American Impressionism—with a personal, Texas point of view.

After successful careers as a graphic designer and illustrator, followed by many years as a children’s book artist, he’s returned to his first love, fine art oil painting. Johnson finds ongoing inspiration from the Texas landscape. The way the light plays upon the trees and rocky terrain. The big powerful, stormy Texas skies. The romantic sunrises and sunsets. The lazy rivers, creeks and streams.

After a lifetime of big city life, Johnson now maintains his studio, home and mini-farm in the woodlands of east Texas, where he can soak up the landscape right outside his door. He’s a member of the Oil Painters of America, National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, American Impressionist Society, and Artists of Texas. He received a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Houston and his work hangs in numerous private and corporate collections.
