Lisa's parents traveled the world collecting fine art. She would anxiously await their arrival, excited to see their newest purchase and learn about the artist. Lisa attributes her love of detailed, smaller works to her Father's favorite discovery, a small piece by a Dutch artist. She remembers her Dad walking through the door, putting her on his lap and slowly unwrapping the art. He handed her a magnifying glass and began to communicate his love for the artist's intricate layers that formed an old woman's face.

That is when she first realized that art is important.

Her material of choice is a hard board covered in porcelain clay and then India Ink, (Scratchboards). Lisa draws into the layer of ink with an XACTO knife until the image appears in the clay. Sometimes these boards are best left black and white, other times she adds color by painting with colored inks.

Her years as a graphic designer and art director continue to feed her passion for the fundamentals of design…pattern, shapes, texture, contrast and line. She is acutely aware of their presence...in a flower, a dragonfly, and a leaf. They appear simple at first glance only to reveal an incredible amount of information when intensified through a magnifying glass.
