Lori Nozick was born in the northeast US, and has lived in New York for 25 years. She is currently living in Miami and has a studio in the Fountainhead Residency and Studio Program in Miami, FL.
Ms. Nozick holds a BFA from Philadelphia College of Art, and an MFA from Pratt Institute. She was a painter for many years, then began making wall reliefs that incorporated painted surfaces and sculptural elements. Her work became increasingly sculptural and large scale, and she has directed this towards architectural sculpture, installations, and earthworks.
The artist has exhibited her work in galleries and museums , done site-specific installations in museums, parks and communities, been awarded permanent public art projects and private commissions, and has received numerous international, national, state, and foundation grants and fellowships for her work.
Ms. Nozick was honored in 2006 for “Luce Et Vita Universae” which was selected as one of the best public art projects of the year by the Americans For the Art Public Art Review, commissioned by the NYC % For Art, Public Art In Public School/SITES Program, and the School Construction Authority. “Luce…” is featured in the recent book, “Public Art in Public Schools”, by Michele Cohen, published by Monacelli Press, 2009.
Ms. Nozick has taught and lectured at William Patterson University, Pratt Institute, and the American University in Corciano, Italy. Her photographs and article, “An Artist Goes to the Venice Bienale” was published in the Winter/Spring 2006 issue of HudsonRiverArt Magazine, Hudson, NY.
In recent exhibitions and installations, the artist has used solar energy and LED lighting, salt blocks, mud pigments, and moving water as elements in her work, with increasing consciousness of renewable sources in art.
The artist’s latest public art commission is a grouping of cast cement monoliths at the Riverwalk Plaza Park, City of Ferndale, WA. Nozick travels the globe creating art, facilitating connections and collaboration between people and cultures. Ms. Nozick had a solo exhibition of her drawings and sculpture at berlin art scouts Gallery in Berlin, Germany in September 2010.
Lori Nozick was recently awarded the Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant for artists.
