Introduction
We are inventors of art;
art the likes of which the world has never seen.
We are makers of machines;
machines which achieve what no human hand can ever attempt.
We are developers of technology;
technology which exposes the imperceptible.
To create beautiful art we must influence our audience with deliberately chosen sensory stimulation, and what we communicate must be instinctively fascinating.
What we know as our five senses are really our minds interpretation of different kinds of energy. We may be aware of visible light, noise or temperature. But our inherent human senses are limited.
Just as sculptors use chisels to shape stone, or musicians use instruments to generate sound waves, Lux Vortex uses imperceptible forces as tools to shape visible forms of energy. The novelty of this new kind of art invokes our natural curiosity.
It is our privilege to apply and we thank you for your consideration of our written submission and for your courage to try new things.
All displays on the website are designed and built by hand in Amsterdam.
Fred Pereira (USA) – Artistic Director
What a long strange trip it’s been. Born and raised in New York City, I became formally educated in physics, fine arts, economics, geography and dropped out of law school, twice, while living in Boulder, Boston and Amsterdam and working as a firefighter, soccer referee, game designer, caterer, high school instructor, real estate executive and handyman. The unique combinations of materials, technologies and techniques used to design and construct my artwork are a clear reflection of this diverse background. I am inspired by the limits of what is possible, creating motion with candles, mixing fire with ice and using surprising materials to move energy to where it can become truly beautiful.
Tycho van Iwaarden (NLD) – General Manager (contactperson (011 316 510 535 60))
All my life I have journeyed on a path of light. This journey took me to the Amsterdam Art Academy to study the art of lighting and theatre technics. Then onward to a career in light. As a light designer and technical manager touring through the Netherlands, Belgium, France and China with Dutch and international artists and as a light engineer and technical producer for the Muziekgebouw aan t’ IJ in Amsterdam I have mastered my trade. Now, as I enter a whole new world of light and sculpture I must go where there is no path. As I explore this cutting edge of materials and technologies I wish to share all that I create and learn with everyone I can reach.
