Maria Robles is a documentary photographer based in New York City. Her photographs aim to create a connection and commonality with the subjects depicted, while also allowing for individuals and communities to exist, thrive, and be valued without the need for extraordinary stories. She is constantly working toward using photography and film as a medium of catharsis, while working on projects focusing on feminism, marginalized youth, and immigrant communities. Her work has been exhibited in galleries around the country, and she has participated in residencies at the Queens Museum and Forward Flux. She also teaches documentary photography workshops and has worked with schools like The Learning Community in Central Falls, RI as well as with nonprofit organizations like Sanctuary for Families and Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation.
