Marissa Roth is a freelance photojournalist, documentary and fine art photographer. She was part of the Los Angeles Times staff that won a Pulitzer Prize for Best Spot News, for its coverage of the 1992 Los Angeles riots. She is the author of Infinite Light: A Photographic Mediation on Tibet, with a foreword by His Holiness the Dalai Lama; The Crossing, a poetic photographic study of the Atlantic Ocean; and Burning Heart: A Portrait of the Philippines. One Person Crying: Women and War, her 35-year global photo essay addressing the immediate and lingering impact of war on women, is a forthcoming book. Cantata: In Isolation, is a collection of her personal photographs taken in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, and is also a forthcoming book. Roth photographs exclusively with film for her personal projects, and is also a curator, lecturer, and teacher, and a Fellow at The Royal Geographical Society in London.
